Upcoming Exhibition in Calgary on May 13, 2023

On Instagram, I posted a sneak peek at the body of work I’ll be sending to Calgary for an exhibition on May 13, Saturday, and thought I’d do the same here.

If you see a piece you’re interested in please contact Wallace Galleries so you’re not disappointed. Flowers have helped us all get through a lot these last years. They’ve reminded me of the importance of beauty, the importance of grounding ourselves with art in our every day lives. Beauty persists and it refreshes our souls so that we may go out into the world and do our work. Flowers can spark wonderful and poignant memories and remind us of warm summer days and the freshness of spring. I hope this series of oil paintings can give a boost to someone’s day.

I’ve had a busy year in the studio as I’ve been taken on by Cotswold Contemporary Gallery and Gallery Merrick. In November of 2022, we were lucky enough to stay in Rome for four weeks. Upon returning, my work was featured in Edify magazine’s December 2022 issue.

The pieces for this Calgary exhibition are a mix of flowers grown in our Edmonton garden and then some from Rome’s Campo de’Fiori where we stayed for the month of November in 2022.

The last solo exhibition I had was also with Wallace Galleries but it was during a more restricted part of the pandemic. That was a learning curve! I sat on my living room Chesterfield and spoke to visitors about flowers via Zoom. It was really apparent to me how much people craved having beauty in their lives. This time it will be nice to visit Calgary and the gallery and meet people and have them experience the work in person.

I’ve talked about how I paint the bouquets to capture the feeling one gets as one leans in to take in the fragrance. I hope that the viewers of my still life will enjoy that sensation.

It’s a month away, but I wanted to give people the time to plan. You can follow Wallace Galleries on Instagram for more information and of course I’ll be sharing myself. If one of the pieces sings out to you though, feel free to call the gallery and have it set aside etc.

I’m looking forward to being in Calgary and in the gallery on May 13!
